Why does it seem that my psychic abilities were stronger and easier to use when I was younger than it is now?

I remeber when premonitions would just come, or I can read a person easily. I haven't use my abilities, nor did I embrace them for awhile. I kinda locked them away I guess. Now I'm curious about them again and they seem not to work. What can I do to get my abilities back?
